Wellington Can Go Green With Purple Pipes! Reclaiming Your Water.

Palm Beach County and Broward county combined use approximately 530 Million Gallons per day. These two counties alone also send 500 Million gallons of water out into the Atlantic ocean. If you ask me, that is a lot of water to dump in the ocean each day!

Reclaiming water South Florida

What is the answer? Reclaim the water. Does that sound gross to you? Most people think this is gross yet they have no idea that all water is actually reclaimed to begin with. All the water we have on the earth is ALL the water we have on the earth. No more, no less. So it is all recycled over and over again.
The reclaimed water comes in Purple Pipes. That is how you know it is reclaimed water. And that is why we have a Reverse Osmosis water system for our whole house. City water is filthy anyway. Here in Wellington they put bleach and flouride  in our water and those are two chemicals we know have serious side effects therefore I prefer my family not be exposed to them. So by the time the water has gone through our Reverse Osmosis system we have pure and clean water.

Reclaiming water is good for the environment. Is sustains rich life in the Wetlands. We can no longer take water from the Everglades. We will have serious droughts if we continue to take water from theEverglades. The cities that want t add growth must have another way to get water to new developments and more people. Orange County in California uses reclaimed water and Broward and Palm Beach counties can learn from them.

There are mandatory building requirements in West DelRay Beach, Boynton Beach and Wellington that if you are going to build it must include Purple Pipes with Reclaimed water.  Palm Beach county only reuses 28% of its' water yet Broward county only reclaims 6%. These figures must change to become responsible water users.

The residents of South Florida need to get used to this idea and start to accept it as a part of living in a populated area. If we keep using the water the way we are we will be sorry next spring when a drought would be much worse than this year.

Experience Wellington's Parks- Wellington Is Known For Parks And Recreation.

Take the kids, walk the dogs, take a stroll in one of the many parks that adorn Wellington. When Wellington Florida was first envisioned in the early 60's; it was decided that in this master planned unit development that there would be many parks and green spaces. This has held up over the years here. Families move here because of the great parks and softball fields. Join me on a photo tour of one of our parks in Sugar Pond Manor, in Wellington. This park is called Foresteria Park. Children love this park. It lies on a canal with private homes abutting it on all sides.

As I spoke to each of the homeowners of the homes that I was viewing I asked them what they loved about their community. Not one of the owners wanted to sell or leave. Circumstances in their lives prevented them from remaining in Village Walk. I was amazed at all the amenities they enjoy in this lovely community.
I saw people of all ages walking their dogs and dads practicing baseball in the vast open green spaces with their sons. There were young fishermen taking to the lakes in little electric powered boats just enjoying life!
As you are ushered into the gates of Village Walk through  the security you are welcomed by a splendid Town Center. You never have to leave this town! Is Wellington Fl Going Green?

Wellington Florida is a community of people who enjoy the country style lifestyle, the great rated A Schools, the immaculate parks, the equestrian and community center events and activities. We are all asked to conserve our water usage during this drought. We as a community have done well in that area. Wellington Florida Saves WaterThe Village posts a sign at the entrance of our town stating that the daily home use is suggested to be at 290 gallons per day of water use. Well, I am happy to report that we have been averaging well under the recommended amount. It looks like the usual amounts have been around 240 gallons per day of usage. This shows the commitment of our community to do it's part in saving a very vital natural resource.
What are some other things besides the obvious that you can be doing on a daily basis within your own homes that will have an impact on the environment as well as the health and safety of your family members?
  1.  We do not use any chemicals for cleaning in our home. I know there are many people in our community have decided to use natural products for household cleaners. Cleaning chemicals such as chlorine bleach, abrasive cleaners, ammonia, furniture spray polishes, toilet bowl cleaners and even dish detergents are highly toxic. Have you read the warning labels on these harsh cleaners? They are not good for the environment. When you use the chemicals in your house you are breathing these chemicals into your lungs and then they are going into your bloodstream. They are also very expensive. What can you use as a healthy alternative? Wellington Families Choose Healthy Cleaning Products
Just plain vinegar, water, lemon juice, olive oil, baking soda and borax. You probably have most of these in your cabinets right now. They are inexpensive and safe for you, your pets, your children and the environment. Stay tune for a follow up blog post I will do with some great cleaning recipes that you can make yourself for healthy cleaners. If you still want to spend money on buying cleaning products choose cleansers like Seventh Generation products that are environmentally safe and not detrimental to your health. You can buy from them online, in Whole Foods and some Targets.
  2. We recycle whatever we canWellington Florida recycles You can reuse paper and mail. Cut up the paper into quarters, staple it together and you have notepads instead of the expensive Post Its. Children can color on the back of used paper. Newspapers can be used for washing mirrors and windows. You can save the glass jars and refill them with grains that you buy in bulk. Kids can even decorate the jars and label them for you. That way they are a part of the recycling process.
  3. Instead of throwing things away when you are cleaning out closets and cabinets. Donate your goods.Your junk is someone else's treasure. If it is not good enough for Good Will find someone in your community that has relatives in another country that would appreciate your junk. Our housekeeper is from Columbia. Her sister in Columbia runs a poor day care center. We give her all our kids stuff, used paper, kitchen items and anything else that they can use and she ships it all down to Columbia. They are so happy to receive it and we are so happy to get rid of it!
  4. Get rid of your hot water heater. It uses energy and wastes water. Instead, get Tankless water heaters. We installed Tankless water heatersWellington Residence Gets Tankless Water Heaters about 2 years ago and I can not now imagine ever living without them. They give us instant hot water, no waiting, no wasting water. They conserve energy and we save money on our electric bill by using them. They also save a lot of space. Now we can use that space in the closets for storage.
  5. Plant flowers and bushes that are native to your area. This is very eco friendly. We planted flowers that attract butterflies to our yard and milkweed to give the caterpillars food to eat so they will stay around our house. This also gives food for the birds and helps with the circle of life. Wellington Fl native Florida flowers
These are some small things that make a big difference that are often overlooked. Doing one thing at a time, taking small steps you can make a difference in the health of you, your family, the community and the earth.
